He picked it out himself at a store. Since he likes to mimic me, he uses it whenever he sees me using my computer (he has a desk of his own next to mine). It has three modes: music, sounds/speaking, and shapes/words. There are nine songs in the music mode. My son is three now, and he still loves using this laptop to listen to the songs, and sing along. It is a good toy with music, lights and learning words together with sound, however my Son doesn't bother with it much. He prefers to just open and close the lid! He will sit and press a couple of buttons and will then just slam the lid shut! I would buy it as a gift for a friends child though as all kids are different and mine's probably just fussy and would rather go on my laptop!! He may be more interested in it when he's a little older. Value for money I think. I found it cheaper on Amazon than anywhere else. He used it increasingly as he grew with it and became more familiar with the sounds, music, and words. His little brother (1yr) now loves it too, and it's been a toy that visiting children of various ages tend to gravitate towards. Good value, fun, educational and durable. I'd recommend it.
